the most “cocomelon shit” i’ve ever experienced in my life was the time i was in calculus II and some girl in front of me was googling “assorted animals” and scrolling through pictures of clipart pigs and horses and shit on her laptop completely focused like it was her tax form

Listen to me. Listen to me. Listen to me. Listen to me.

I know there is a lot of discourse around this right now but listen to me

sometimes you do just have to lie to children.

If, when my toddler is, you know, toddling around saying “mama? Big ball?”

If I were lean down and say “unfortunately the big beach ball for some reason fills you with such an unadulterated rage that is beyond human comprehension that you scream until you pass out, so mama had to remove the beach ball from the premises until you can better regulate your emotions” she would simply stare at me like I had 3 heads full of equal betrayal.

So, for now, instead “big ball went night night!”

Please understand when I say “removed the ball from the premises” I mean I popped it in a fit of exhausted confusion. I murdered the beach ball.

See I’ve lied to you all too and it was better this way.

Honestly, in my work as a therapist, I’m seeing this A Lot, and tbh I still don’t have a satisfactory approach to it. A heavy dose of Existentialist “create your own Purpose” tempered with “when the plane’s going down, put your own oxygen mask on first”, but… yeah, there is no ethical way to work on individual emotional distress without acknowledging the systemic socioeconomic, geopolitical fuckery going on at the moment, and the sheer grief that comes with it.

I’m a guidance counselor/psychologist for teenagers and it’s getting really hard to motivate young people to work for a future they don’t believe in.

They look at ther future and see global warming, wwIII, unemployement, political unstability, poison in everything  they eat, the earth and animals dying all around them.

I saw this video where someone was asking french teens in the 50s how they imagine the future would be. The war hadn’t been over for long and yet it was all positive with like peace and flying cars and such. Then they went and ask the same questions to nowadays teens and hell that was depressing. Some still had hope, but it was just that “well I hope I’ll have a nice house and maybe some kid” but there was such a hesitancy to it, like they didn’t dare to hope too much.

People mock Greta Thunberg but what they don’t get is that when she said “you stole my dreams”, it was the truth.

Young people don’t get to dream like they used to. They don’t dream anymore, they grief all that won’t be anymore and that’s just so fucking sad.

The fact that both the tweet and these reblogs are pre-pandemic makes this post even worse

its a shame ditherpunk never took off

What’s that?

pixel art but in 1-bit, i.e. only black or white pixels.  you create shading via dithering, or densities of black pixels vs white pixels, hence “dither punk.”

It’s lo-fi and retro in a very goth way

Only slightly related - the GIFs above are all visuals from the video game Return of the Obra Dinn. The game is by the same guy as Papers, Please and is about an insurance investigator trying to uncover the mystery behind the Obra Dinn, a ship that left with a full crew and returned devoid of life and in tatters. The player goes backward and forward through time and uses clues in each scene to fill out a list of crewmates and their various means of death. It’s a very fun game, especially with friends!

Hate hate hate how when I get angry there is a physical reaction but it’s not glowing eyes or growing claws or something it’s crying. This feels unfair.

I haven’t the slightest clue what’s going on here but I’m a fan of the general unhinged energy

Will never see eye-to-eye with anyone less than the people who treat their pets like wandering ronin instead of valued family members. Like oh there goes Bronson our uncollared, chipless chocolate lab out of the permanently open back door again. If he comes home in three days after subsisting on garbage we’ll be mildly thrilled to see him again but if he succumbs to his natural predator, the 2006 Toyota Camry, that’s just the circle of life
